Sheila McLoughlin - Body Psychotherapist

My work as a Body Psychotherapist is informed by many years of managing and developing teams of scientists. The workplace makes great demands on us to deliver and often old patterns of defensive behaviours surface under this pressure. Helping to bring awareness to such behaviours can transform the performance and job satisfaction of those willing to listen to feedback and be open to self improvement.

My work made me curious about what holds us back from being the best version of ourselves in all aspects of our lives, and motivated me to train as a Psychotherapist. My lifelong love of dance has taught me the value of the body in emotional expression, and led me to seek a body oriented psychotherapy training.

I have a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Bath and a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Cambridge. Since gaining my PhD I have worked for 25 years as a Research Scientist in the Cambridge Biotech & small Pharma sector.

Most recently I have been working for a cancer charity managing a group of scientists striving to translate academic science into new cancer treatments.

I am an Accredited Body Psychotherapist and a Full Clinical Member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and a member of the Association of Biodynamic Massage Therapists (ABMT).

I adhere to these regulatory bodies’ ethical practices and undertake professional supervision for my practice.
